Quitters Often Win: When To Cut and Run

I live and work in Ottawa, and I need a way to get around, so like many other commuters in the city, I went and got myself a bike. Many things were wrong with it, and were continuously going wrong with it, but I kept pouring time and effort and money into fixing it.
Have you ever had a project or task that you started and figured, “I’ve gotten this far, I may as well finish.” You started a book that you didn’t like and just feel like you may as well finish.
However, when it comes to my bike, I have to overcome any sentimental value that I have for this thing and simply say, “Is it cheaper to get a new bike or fix what I have.” In reality, it will be difficult to fix, expensive to fix, and in the end only be an OK older bike that still weighs a ton and is hard to ride.
Do you have any activities in your life that you really dislike but feel like you’d lose your contribution if you quit? Working at a “dead end” job is, obviously, not going to get you anywhere. SO QUIT! Nothing is worse then self inflicted misery that you could really avoid!
I look at the bike and realize slowly that this is a waste of time! Get something that requires no work, no money and no more headaches.
That’s it, I’m going to get a new bike!

I ended up keeping that bike as a winter beater, but then got hit by a car. :(
