2009 Summer Reading List
March 31st, 2009. Published under UrbanSpeaker. 7 Comments.

Despite the fact that I write this website, I don’t always have the best financial habits. I am getting better, but there are still times when I am terrified to even look at my bank balance.
But all that ends this summer. University is out soon, so I will have more time on my hands to learn all I need to know about personal finance. So without any further adieu, here is my reading list for summer 2009.
1\\ I Will Teach You To Be Rich (Ramit Sethi)
Summary: Ramit has designed a 6-week program for young people to take control of their finances. This book is chock-full of tips and tricks for saving money.
2\\ Your Money or Your Life (Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin)
Summary: This book teaches you to get out of debt and develop savings, resolve inner conflicts between values and lifestyle, reorder material priorities and live well for less money and less impact on the earth.
3\\ Secrets of the Millionaire Mind (T. Harv Eker)
Summary: Eker’s claim to fame is starting one of the first fitness stores in North America on a $2000 credit card loan and selling the chain 2.5 years later for $1.6 million. “He believes thoughts lead to feelings, which lead to actions, which lead to results, and hence the key to attaining great wealth begins with thinking–like rich people do.” -Mary Whaley
4\\ The Millionaire Next Door (Thomas Stanley and William Danko)
Summary: The authors wanted to know how to be rich, so they went around and interviewed the wealthiest people in America and found 7 rules they have in common. Here they are…
5\\ America’s Cheapest Family (Steve and Annette Economides)
Summary: Although a little extreme into the world of “being a cheapskate”, this book gives loads of information on how to save in all areas of your everyday life.
6\\ The Money Book For The Young, Fabulous and Broke (Suze Orman)
Summary: Some say Suze Orman offers too much information on the subject of personal finance and debt; I want to read this one because it’s very geared towards the youth buried in student loans and credit card debt, struggling to escape.
7\\ The Richest Man in Babylon (George S. Clason)
Summary: Through easy to understand parables, Clason tells of his 7 pillars of personal finance, from “Start thy purse to fattening” (start saving) to “Increase thy ability to earn” (get more education).
Hopefully I will learn some great habits from these books. It’s been said that the habits you make now will last your whole life. (I learned that from a book.)

Thanks James, let me know if you read any of those books and what you think! I’m always looking for guest speakers; a book review would be great.
