What I Learned In Class So Far

Looking back at my years and years (and years) of schooling I really can’t say I have much to show for my time. I still don’t understand why I have to take 4 years of University; I could do it in 2 for sure. Cut all the unrelated useless courses out of my program and the unrelated useless topics from the good courses.

The biggest, most pervasive topic that I have encountered time and time again is the method for getting things done. It goes like this:

I own a rental property currently, and I have 3 people renting from me.  Unfortunately, I had a bad tenant.  Not one who didn’t pay rent or damaged things, but someone who was very disturbing to the other tenants.  The eviction process went quite smoothly, and despite a few insulting letters, I remain unscathed.

Over the past 9 months, I have learned a tremendous amount about how to be a friendly landlord, but also how to deal firmly and in a controlled manner with any issues that arise.

I live and work in Ottawa, and I need a way to get around, so like many other commuters in the city, I went and got myself a bike. Many things were wrong with it, and were continuously going wrong with it, but I kept pouring time and effort and money into fixing it.

Have you ever had a project or task that you started and figured, “I’ve gotten this far, I may as well finish.” You started a book that you didn’t like and just feel like you may as well finish.
